Along the way they encountered monks and lamas, yak-herders and villagers, temples and shrines, and witnessed esoteric religious rituals and practices in the Buddhist monasteries, which are the centers of culture in these secluded regions. Thanks to Professor Snellgrove’s vast knowledge of Buddhism and Himalayan culture, the book is a valuable resource for scholars and students as well as a colorful travelogue. David L.
